Sakurajima Field Campaign

This week, Nicarnica Aviation have joined forces with a team from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks and Japanese colleagues to take part in a field campaign at Sakurajima Volcano, Japan.  The team will deploy an array of sensors alongside Nicarnica’s NicAIR II and EnviCam 3 instruments to monitor both the explosive events and passive degassing from the vent.

Sakurajima is typically very active with explosions ranging from strong strombolian to large, ash rich explosions every 4-24 hours.  The two videos below show two different explosive events from 14th February 2014.
